John A. Boneta
Attorney — Law Offices of John Boneta, PLLC
Few attorneys understand the criminal justice system the way John A. Boneta does, because he has stood on every side of it. Over a career spanning nearly four decades, he has served as a police officer, a prosecutor, a defense attorney, and a law professor, giving him an insider's grasp of how cases are built, how they are charged, and how they are won. John carries this unique perspective with every client he represents.
John began his career in law enforcement, serving the Arlington County Police Department as a K-9 Officer and Field Training Officer from 1985 to 1994. After becoming an attorney, John began his legal career as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for Arlington County, where he prosecuted criminal, traffic, and juvenile cases in General District Court, and conducted jury trials for Felony cases in Circuit Court. Years later, in 2019, he returned to public service as a Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney in Loudoun County, leading the Special Victims Unit and earning the Executive Impact Award for Excellence in Leadership before returning to private practice in Leesburg in 2020.
His private practice experience is equally comprehensive. John has managed his own firm and mentored associates throughout his career. He has served as Of Counsel at Speiser Krause, as a partner at Phillips, Beckwith, Hall & Boneta, and as the attorney entrusted with criminal matters at Baskin, Jackson & Hansbarger. These roles that have honed both his trial skills and his judgment on behalf of the clients who depend on him.
John is a magna cum laude graduate of the Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law and holds a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from American University. He is also a dedicated educator: he has taught Trial Advocacy at George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School for more than twenty years and has served as an adjunct professor of Trial Advocacy at George Washington University Law School since 2019. His teaching career also includes service as an Assistant Professor at Marymount University, a Moot Court instructor at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy, and an instructor for Virginia Bar continuing legal education courses. He has further given back to his community through the Falls Church Public Safety and Human Relations Advisory Commission.
Outside the courtroom and the classroom, John is a devoted advocate for animal rescue and currently has three rescues that he successfully fostered and adopted.
John A. Boneta is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Grace A. Martinez
Associate Attorney — Law Offices of John Boneta, PLLC
Grace A. Martinez joined the Law Offices of John Boneta, PLLC as an Associate Attorney in 2026, after nearly two years with the firm as a legal intern. By the time she came on as a practicing attorney, Grace already knew the firm's clients, the local courtrooms, and the Northern Virginia community she serves.
Grace earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Arizona State University, graduating summa cum laude as a member of Barrett, The Honors College. She went on to the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University, where she earned her Juris Doctor and developed her courtroom skills, earning the 2026 Trial Advocacy Award from the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.
She has interned with the Loudoun County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office and the Arizona Attorney General's Office. Having seen how cases are built from the prosecution side, she draws on this perspective to guard her clients' rights at every stage.
Her commitment to fairness in the justice system runs through her scholarship. Her published research in the journal Criminology examines the lives of individuals formerly sentenced to juvenile life without parole, with a focus on resilience and second chances. Grace's research reflects her belief that good people deserve a strong advocate in difficult times.
Grace A. Martinez is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
